You might experience a few of the following signs:

Eye redness and difficulties opening up the eyes in the morning
Sticky or watery eye fluid
Mild itchiness, burning, or scratching
Can’t stand bright lights.

Mild bacterial conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is typically treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointment. The most commonly prescribed antibiotics for bacterial conjunctivitis are erythromycin, sulfacetamide, and polymyxin B. The duration of treatment usually ranges from 3-7 days.

To help alleviate symptoms, you can also do the following:

  • Apply a warm compress to your eye to help reduce redness and discomfort
  • Clean your eyelids with a damp cloth to remove crusts
  • Use artificial tears to keep your eyes lubricated
  • Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes
  • Practice good hygiene by washing your hands frequently
  • Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, eye drops, or makeup

It’s important to see a doctor if your symptoms are severe, if you have a fever, or if your symptoms have not improved after a few days of treatment.

It’s also important to note that if you wear contact lenses, you should stop wearing them until the infection has cleared up.
