Ontario has announced plans to add up to five more minor ailments in early 2027, which could bring pharmacist prescribing to as many as 33 conditions.

Pharmacist prescribing is not unlimited. Ontario regulations specify which medications can be prescribed for each minor ailment.
A pharmacist may recommend self-care, an over-the-counter option, an authorized prescription, follow-up, or referral to another healthcare professional.
The goal is not a prescription. The goal is the right treatment.
Minor ailments are the focus here, but Ontario pharmacy scope also includes broader vaccine and injection services.
Ontario pharmacists can administer vaccines listed in Schedule 3, subject to age, training, product, prescription and funding requirements.
This includes influenza, COVID-19, shingles, HPV, pneumococcal, RSV, hepatitis, tetanus, pertussis and others.
Pharmacists may also administer many prescribed injectable substances listed in Schedule 1 when applicable requirements are met.
Examples include insulin, semaglutide, tirzepatide, certain biologics, anticoagulants, fertility medications and other therapies.
